Post

So I finally got around to editing my pictures from Marisa and Maggie’s wedding, but our internet here is being finicky and I can’t make posts from my computer. So I’ll probably have to wait until my next off day to get real internet and get some stuff queued.

My finished Halloween costume: Plague Doctor.

I was initially going to make the whole costume (I even bought fabric and a pattern for a really awesome cloak), but trying to make the cloak made me have a panic attack, so I broke down and bought one (it’s actually a combination of a cheap robe and a cheap cape), then bought the hat at the last minute. I made the mask by loosely following the instructions on creepypasta.

I’m really please with how it turned out, especially since I totally looked better than the student who dressed up as a plague doctor (he just bought a beaked masquerade mask, a cape, and a hat, and called it a day).

The biggest drawback to the costume is that wearing it is HOT AS BALLS. If I lived somewhere where the seasons actually happen in the order they’re supposed to, it would be cooler today, and it maybe wouldn’t be as bad. Also, the mask severely limits my depth perception, but I was able to use my pokin’ stick as a bit of a cane to help me out (and yes, I did poke several of the children with my stick and declare that they were sadly beyond my help).

I walked around the school with a bucket of candy that said “help yourself,” and scared the bajeezus out of a lot of kids (and staff), several of whom didn’t trust that I wasn’t going to try to scare them as soon as they reached into the bucket. Because I painted black around my eyes underneath the mask, very few people were able to tell who was wearing the mask, which added to the scare factor.

The making of my Halloween costume. Here’s the mask with ridges sculpted onto the brow and cheekbones with a mixture of clay, plaster bandages, and papier-mâché, before and after the base coat of paint. I was going for a bone color for the base paint.

The making of my Halloween costume this year. Here’s the beak, in the stage where it looked a lot like a dildo, and the stage where it looked slightly less like a dildo.

The beak is made from a styrofoam cone, shaped into a hook at the end, then spackled for texture.

samashies:

My favorite game is called “how many episodes can I watch in one night”?

I love the bonus round where you try to convince yourself that you can watch a 45 minute episode in like 20 minutes.

The best part is “who needs sleep you’re only 5 episodes away from the season finale”?

Plot twist: the season finale is three parts.

Double plot twist: cliffhanger at the end of the season so you have to watch the next episode.

This reminds me of last year, when I literally would start a new series and finish it in a week, being late for class because I thought a 45 min episode could fit in 20 minutes. Now I’m like, “what is free time?”

Blurry shots of Louis (full name Louis Moreau Gottschalk, the kitty I rescued when I worked at the Hot Springs Music Festival in 2006, then gave to my aunt because he needed to be an indoor cat and we couldn’t keep him) playing with/trying to steal some tomatoes I picked in my aunt’s garden.
